For children, Kung Fu isn’t about fighting, it’s about development. Kung Fu means “Time and Effort”, trying to master something through practice and hard work. These are important traits that every parent would like their child to learn and carry with them the rest of their lives. Our children’s program builds self confidence, self discipline, coordination, strength and focus. Our caring and professional staff is dedicated to helping every child learn at there own pace and ecourage them with positive reinforcement.

Fitness

Most children are already in good health. But as we see more and more today, unhealthy habits can lead to an unhealthy life style. One of the aspects we focus on is fitness. Understanding that their bodies are still growing and developing, the training that Shaolin Kids receive does not place unwanted stress on their bodies to hinder that growth. Shaolin Kids learn how to increase their endurance, become stronger, more flexible and more agile in a natural way.

Self Discipline and Confidence

Shaolin Kids learn self discipline and confidence through the material that they learn. Self discipline comes from practice. Confidence comes from that continued training and seeing result of that training. We use the training as a tool to teach children to over come their fears, and that hard work is the key to becoming successful in life.

Self Defense and Awareness

Every class starts with showing respect to other classmates by opening class with a bow. We always warm up with a series of exercises specifically in mind for kids. Stretching and strength training are a part of this. A series of proper stances, punching and kicking and basic techniques are taught in the beginning. As the child progresses they move to more complicated material. Learning short and long Katas that develop “Right and Left” coordination, teaching the student how to move fluidly and naturally.

Awareness is a part of self defense. Not only do we teach your child on how to punch and kick, but to be aware of his/her surroundings. If your child is aware that there may be danger approaching, they will be more prepared to protect themselves. Awareness is a key in survival. Simply by being aware, we may avoid conflict. And that, for children, is the best way.

Ages and Class Times

Shaolin Kids class is for children from the age of 6 to 12 years old. Classes are every Monday and Wednesday from 5:15pm till 6pm. We offer 2 free classes to new students, allowing them to see if Shaolin is for them.
